Orthokeratology ...
Myopia Control
Why have I Not Heard Of It Before?
Orthokeratology is a safe answer to Myopia (nearsightedness) which affects nearly 100
million Americans today. It is a non-invasive, or non-surgical alternative to refractive
surgeries such as Photo-Refractive Keratectomy (PRK), and Laser in-Situ Keratomileusis
(LASIK).
Orthokeratology has been practiced for well over forty years and begun by original
members of the National Eye Research Foundation. The public has not heard of Ortho-K
mainly because Ortho-K was started long before doctors were permitted to advertise as they
do today.
What is Orthokeratology? Ortho-K is an Eye Care Specialty in which the Orthokeratologist
gently reshapes the corneal contour of the eye, correcting the nearsightedness and
astigmatism, as well as changing the focus of the eye and thereby improving vision.
